Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president, has claimed that selecting a running mate for the 1999 election was a mistake.
On Saturday, June 25, he made the remark while speaking in Abeokuta at a leadership and entrepreneurship mentorship event with chosen school pupils.
In the 2023 presidential election, Obasanjo, who was elected president in 1999 and 2003, competed alongside Atiku Abubakar, the PDP's current presidential flagbearer. Both broke down under his leadership.
Obasanjo said during the leadership program
"I don't pretend that I don't make mistakes; I did. But God has never let me down, and that is something that has happened to me. Furthermore, that is crucial. For instance, choosing a number two when I was running for president was one of the errors I made. But God delivered me from it because it was an honest mistake.
